Infonetics: "Standalone DPI market to surge to $1.5B by 2014" (rather than 2013)

Infonetics new DPI market report is less aggressive than the previous one "Infonetics Research forecasts the standalone deep packet inspection (DPI) product market to grow more than 6-fold between 2009 and 2014, when it will hit $1.5 billion".

See "Standalone deep packet inspection (DPI) market to surge to $1.5 billion by 2014", by Shira Levin, Directing Analyst, Next Gen OSS and Policy, here

Previously Infonetics forecasted the same $1.5B for 2013 (here). Other recent research show:  $1.6B in 2015 (Bharatbook, here), $1.3B in 2015 (ABI, here)

While the net neutrality debate continues to dampen DPI investment in some markets, we are anticipating strong growth in emerging regions such as the Middle East and Asia. Operators in those markets are increasingly recognizing the value of DPI technology in better managing network congestion caused by rapid subscriber and application growth, as well as complying with regulatory requirements and addressing cyber security issues” notes Shira Levine.

However, Sandvine, the leading DPI vendor, results show that a very significant portion of its revenues come from North America and EMEA - 74% and 61% in Q2 and Q3 respectively. Allot said that its largest customer (Vodafone- here) accumulated orders exceeded $25M (in Q1 2010) - all in Europe.

Other highlights from the current Infonetics report:
  • Telecom operators turn to DPI for traffic shaping, advanced network security, regulatory compliance, targeted advertising, and value-added services, such as more sophisticated subscriber control capabilities

  • DPI also is increasingly being used to enable new business models, such as bundling applications with guaranteed QoS and granular content-based charging

  • Sandvine leads the worldwide standalone DPI product market, followed closely by Cisco
